This goes back a few years, but I clearly remember Scott Marden droning on in front of a Power Point slide showing the ad revenue trajectory flat lining at the Big Three (BW, Forbes, Fortune). But lower down on the same chart, ad sales at the Economist were shown shooting up from nowhere like the Little Engine That Could. Too bad nobody seemed to notice. Maybe a few more lines of text per page and a little less "buzz" and "white space" could have saved the mag... Aug. 14, 2009, 10:37am Steve Baker: Mara, I'm not sure they exist. And I do worry about one of these private equity groups. They could be disasterous, not only for us, but for what remains of BW. I'm justvsaying that if we are going to survive (and, conceivably, even thrive someday) it's going to have to be outside of McGraw Hill.
